The PIN (Personal Identification Number) and PUK (Personal Unblocking Number) security codes are issued together with the CIE.

The last page of the receipt provided by the clerk contains the first part of the codes. The receipt is provided once all steps of the application procedure have been completed.

The second part of both codes will arrive in the envelope containing the CIE.

Documento di identificazione Pin e Puk

The citizen must join the two parts of the codes and carefully store them. They are required to access digital services, with the “Entra con CIE” or when the document is used with the CIE Software as described in the user guide.

The PIN (Personal Identification Number) code is necessary to authorize access through the CIE, while the PUK (Personal Unblocking Number) is necessary for de-blocking the PIN code after entering an incorrect PIN code three times.

Unblocking the PIN using the PUK is possible via computer using the
CIE software and via smartphone using the CieID app.

The PIN and PUK codes of the CIE have the same usage principle as that of a SIM card.
